Over the past month, the City of Detroit has handed out tickets to 27 to businesses that have violated various safety guidelines connected to the coronavirus.

Detroit’s Chief Public Health Officer Denise Fair says more than 400 complaints have been called in to the city.

“My teams are spending a lot of time on the weekends and throughout the week, following up on the investigations,” Fair said. “So, about 30 days ago the mayor and I announced a call-in line for residents to report violators. And we have heard, we’ve heard from our residents.”

The latest violations were at the Omen’s Motorcycle Club and McCarthy’s Party Place.

Fair said most of the violations have been for eating inside the business, which is a violation of the current ban on indoor dining by order of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

While some of the cited businesses have since made changes to comply with COVID-19 safety standards, others have court hearings pending.

Businesses found to be in violation are subject to a fine of up to $1,000.
