Fatal Crash Leaves Biker & SUV Driver Dead & Authorities Hunting for Pickup

COMANCHE, TX – A six vehicle crash over the weekend near Comanche left two dead and authorities hunting the driver of a Ford Pickup who fled the scene.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Marc Couch, three motorcycles and three other vehicles were involved in the crash Saturday afternoon around 6 p.m. three miles east of Comanche on U.S. 67.

The driver of a Ford pickup fled the scene and is being hunted by DPS investigators and other Law Enforcement.

According to the Trooper, the Ford Pickup was following a Nissan SUV driven by 78-year-old Jimmy Walter Crosson of Comanche east on U.S. 67. The pickup crossed the centerline into the opposite lane attempting to pass the Nissan. A Toyota Prius was traveling west toward the other two vehicles and saw the Ford pickup in his lane. The Nissan driver pulled right to avoid a crash. The pickup crashed into the left side of the Prius.

Three motorcycles were heading west and witnessed the crash and attempted to take evasive action. A Harley Davidson Streetglide was struck by the Ford’s mirror. A Harley Davidson Softail veered right into the path of the Nissan SUV. The driver of the Nissan steered into the westbound lane and the Nissan and Harley Softail crash into each other. Crosson died in the crash.

A biker on a Yahama XV1700A couldn’t avoid the SUV and Harley and crashed head on into the Nissan SUV. 56-year-old Steven Lewis Stewart of Coleman was riding the Yamaha and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford pickup fled the scene and is now a fugitive from justice.
