Biker fights for life after serious crash

A biker is in a life-threatening condition following a serious crash in Weymouth.

Emergency services were called to Boot Hill just after 8.30am this morning, Thursday.

It was a reported a Zontes motorcycle and a red Skoda Fabia were involved in a collision on Newstead Road at the junction with the A354 near Asda.

The rider of the motorcycle has been taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment by the ambulance service and his condition has been described as life-threatening by Dorset Police.

The driver of the Skoda did not sustain any serious injuries.

Road closures were put in place to allow emergency services to safely deal with the incident.

Police Sergeant Dave Cotterill, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “An investigation is underway to establish what happened and I am appealing for any witnesses to please come forward.

“I am keen to hear from any motorists with a dashcam fitted who may have relevant footage to assist my enquiries.

“Finally, I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place. They were absolutely necessary to enable us to conduct a thorough investigation.”

The junction at Boot Hill was closed for several hours whilst emergency services worked at the scene.

A member of the public recalled that there were around four police cars and two ambulances present at the scene, as well as a a couple of undercover police cars.

Due to the junction being cordoned off, traffic built up in all diretions and police were turning motorists away.

Another member of the public said there was ‘a lot of commotion’ and told our reporter ‘I just hope everyone is ok.’
