Former NFL running back Alex Collins, known for his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens, tragically passed away at the age of 28 due to a motorcycle crash.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office revealed in a news release that the accident occurred on Sunday night in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.
Collins, whose NFL journey spanned several teams, last competed in the league in 2021. Additionally, he had joined the Memphis Showboats of the USFL during the spring of this year.
The Ravens, one of the teams Collins had played for, expressed their grief in a statement.
“With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alex Collins. Always quick to greet everyone with a smile, he was a genuinely kind person who carried a special joy and passion wherever he went. May Alex always be remembered for the light and love he brought to so many people in his life.”
The Seahawks, Collins’ other NFL team, conveyed their sorrow, stating, “Absolutely heartbroken. Prayers are with the Collins family.”
During his college years at the University of Arkansas, Collins shone with an impressive record, boasting three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and accumulating 3,703 rushing yards along with 36 touchdowns.
Collins was originally drafted in the 5th round of the 2016 Draft by the Seahawks.
After his rookie season with Seattle, he joined the Ravens, where he enjoyed a standout year in 2017, recording 1,160 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns.
