Motorcycle clubs deliver gifts to the Children’s Home of Reading

More than $1,400 in gifts were given to the organization to distribute.

Members of local motorcycle clubs are making Christmas a reality for children who may not have otherwise have one.

A convoy of bikers made the journey from the Reading Motorcycle Club in Oley Township to deliver more than $1,400 in presents to the Children’s Home of Reading this past weekend. The event symbolized the culmination of the Holiday Toy Run, a campaign in which the clubs collect and donate toys, gift cards and games for residents of the home.

The riders and children enjoyed hot chocolate and snacks while discussing motorcycles. They also received a special surprise visit from Santa Claus.

“This is the official kickoff every year to start our holiday gift drive, and the kids and bikers have a great time mingling,” said Jill Troutman, vice president of advancement and communications for the home.

Troutman said the Holiday Toy Run will ensure that more than 10,000 children will get their Christmas wish this season.

Bob Yohn, an organizer of the event representing the Garden Spot Motorcycle Club, said the bikers love that they can make a different in the lives of children who are less fortunate. He thanked the members of his club, the Reading Motorcycle Club, the Pagoda Motorcycle Club, the South Mountain Chapter of A.B.A.T.E. and all the other independent riders for making the Holiday Toy Run a success.

Yohn also thanked the children at the home who were so appreciative of the time they spent with them.

“I truly believe that we are making a positive impact on these kids lives,” he said.

The Children’s Home of Reading serves more than 4,000 youngsters and their families through 40 programs.
