Army veteran one of those killed at motorcycle club

One of two victims in a shooting at a motorcycle club in Park Hill was a 13-year Army veteran who served in Iraq.

Joshua Batts was from Texas and was spending time in Denver when he died, according to his sister, Shakila Carr.

Batts was one of seven people who were shot during an after-hours gathering at the Hell’s Lovers Motorcycle Club Sunday morning. Michael David, 44, was also killed, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. Five people who were hospitalized have been released, according to Denver Police.

Not much is known about the incident or why it started except that officers responded to the shooting at the Hell’s Lovers Motorcycle Club at 5514 E. 33rd Ave. at 3:09 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Denver police said that multiple guns were fired outside of the building and that they are working to determine whether there were shots fired inside the building.

Batts, a 39-year-old husband and father of five children, was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center and the Denver Medical Examiner was notified of his death at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Carr said that losing her brother as the holidays approach is especially hard.

“We just want justice for him. He is truly going to be missed. We are devastated,” said Carr.

No arrests have been made in the case and police said that the investigation is ongoing.

Any witnesses who left the location or have information about the shooting are encouraged to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

GoFundMe has been set up to help Batt’s wife and five children.
