Brave Iranian BIKER women flout regime’s morality police despite raving clerics fretting that they’re ‘exposed to WIND’
While female motorcyclists go unchallenged for now, the religious police are still enforcing other modesty laws

REBELLIOUS women are once again taking to the streets of Tehran – this time on motorbikes. Women motorcyclists seem to be going unchallenged for now
Scooters and bikes are becoming a popular form of transport for women in the Iranian capital, despite backlash from traditionalists.
Under the Iranian regime, all women are forced to conceal their hair and to dress “modestly”.
Mohammad Seraj, a hard-line Tehran MP said that “a woman sitting on a motorcycle cannot maintain the modest attire expected of her” because “she is exposed to the wind”.
Women are allowed to drive a car in Iran, but they cannot ride motorcycles outside of sport.
Iranian police rules say that motorcycle licences can only be given to “mardan” – the Farsi word for “men”.
Despite this, more and more female bikers can be seen zipping around Tehran.
Merat Behnam described riding her bright yellow scooter to the coffee shop she runs.
“It was a big deal for me,” she said.
“I didn’t really know how to go about it.”
The 38-year-old said that when she first took to the road, she thought she might be shouted at or arrested, but so far, she has been left alone.
In fact, most people don’t seem to mind her riding.
“In the beginning I was quite stressed, but gradually the way people treated me and their reactions encouraged me a lot,” she said.
Another female motorcyclist says she used to worry about being stopped by the morality police, but said: “Even traffic police officers don’t have a problem with us when they see that we have helmets and are following safety measures.
“We’re careful, we signal, we stop at red lights – and they leave us alone.”
Women motorcyclists seem to be going unchallenged for now, but the regime’s religious police are still enforcing modesty laws.
At the weekend, Iran’s strict morality police arrested a female Taekwondo and gymnastics coach for not wearing a hijab during a public performance.
The athlete and social media star, Shariati Roudposhti, was taken to an undisclosed location by Ministry of Intelligence agents.
A source close to her family said the arrest was justified as she was “failing to observe public dress codes during a public performance.”
Her family have no idea if she is alive or dead during her detention.
Back in January, a fearless Iranian woman snatched the turban of a cleric after he blasted her for not wearing a headscarf.
She then wrapped the turban around her head, prompting her arrest.
More recently, President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that the Iranian capital may have to be evacuated after it was revealed that its reservoirs only have nine days of drinking water left.
The country faces one of the worst droughts in history, which the President called a “serious and unimaginable crisis”.
This crisis is another blow for the Ayatollah after Israel and the US carried out a bombing campaign earlier this year.
