Phil Boudreault, known as the only boxer from Sudbury to compete at the Summer Olympics, in 1996 in Atlanta, as well as for his association with outlaw motorcycle gangs, has died.

Boudreault’s former boxing club, Top Glove Boxing Academy, posted a social media tribute to him, remembering his athletic accomplishments.

Boudreault’s Wikipedia page said he was born Jan. 23, 1975, and died Jan. 20, 2026, just short of his 51st birthday.

Upon his return from the 1996 Olympics, Boudreault took part in a parade in his honour. Unfortunately, according Peter Edward’s book on biker Lorne Campbell, “Unrepentant”, a wine and cheese autograph signing that following the parade was interrupted by Sudbury Police, who arrested Boudreault at the event for an outstanding warrant.

He later competed in professional boxing, but retired in 2009 due to an injury.

Boudreault joined the Sudbury chapter of the Satan’s Choice outlaw motorcycle club as a young man (which later merged with the Hells Angels), keeping his association secret from Olympic officials.

Later becoming a high-ranking Hells Angels member, he was shot while riding his motorcycle in Quebec with his girlfriend in 2016, an incident that confined him to a wheelchair.

A Toronto Star article said the cause of his death is not immediately known, but he suffered from infections and sepsis following the shooting incident.

Boudreault also spent some time in prison, including for an attack on a father and son in a Valley East bar in 2004, among other legal troubles.
